Traffic Controller/Implement TMP – Upgrade and refresh to the new traffic control qualifications

The upgrade/refresher process is aimed at individuals that hold current traffic control qualifications and want to be able to operate portable traffic control devices such as temporary traffic lights or boom gates, maintain their industry currency and remain compliant with TfNSW training requirements.

New Safework NSW Traffic Controller Qualification

  • RIICOM201E – Communicate in the workplace
  • RIIWHS201E – Work safely and follow WHS policies and procedures
  • RIIWHS205E – Control traffic with stop-slow bat
  • RIIWHS206 – Control traffic with portable traffic control devices and temporary traffic signs (new unit)

New Safework NSW Implement Traffic Management Plans Qualification

  • RIICOM201E – Communicate in the workplace
  • RIIRIS301E – Apply risk management processes (new unit)
  • RIIWHS201E – Work safely and follow WHS policies and procedures
  • RIIWHS302E – Implement traffic management plans
  • RIIWHS303 – Position, set up and program portable traffic control devices (new unit)

Upgrade/TfNSW Refresher process

The upgrade/refresher process is simple and provides you with a refresher of your existing knowledge and skills. It will also provide an opportunity for our trainers to bring you up to speed with all the latest developments in the Traffic Control Industry, particularly the introduction of the new TfNSW TCAWS manual (became a live document on 13/11/2020) which has some very significant impacts on your day to day operations, including the requirement to have your TC qualifications refreshed every 2 years.

Upgrade and refresh to either the Traffic Controller or Implementer qualification singly

  • a refresher of the old units you already hold
  • learn the 1 new unit from the new Traffic Controller qualification OR
  • learn the 2 new units from the new Implement Traffic Management Plans qualification
  • a live assessment to finalise your upgrade/refresher.

Upgrade and refresh to the combined Traffic Controller and Implementer qualification

  • a refresher of the 4 old units you already hold
  • learn the 3 new units from the new combined qualifications
  • a live assessment to finalise your upgrade/refresher.

Duration

1 day – **needs to be refreshed every 2 years to meet TfNSW requirements**

Pre requisites

Must hold existing Traffic Control qualifications (this course is not suitable for new entrants)

Award

Successful participants will be awarded with the relevant and current units of competence as described.
