What Is a White Card?
A White Card is a certification that proves you’ve completed a safety training course required to work on construction sites in Australia. It’s officially called a “Construction Induction Card” and is necessary for anyone who wants to work in the construction industry, whether you’re just starting out or have been working without certification.
The training covers basic safety knowledge to keep you and others safe on the job, like how to recognise hazards, how to respond to emergencies, and the general safety rules that all construction sites follow. Once you’ve done the training and passed the test, you get your White Card, which you need to carry with you to any construction job. This card shows that you know the essential safety protocols, making it a key piece of your work gear in the construction field.

How to get a White Card in QLD?
- Choose a Registered Training Organisation (RTO): You need to complete your training through an RTO that is approved to deliver the CPCCWHS1001 – Prepare to work safely in the construction industry course. You can find a list of approved RTOs on the Queensland Government’s website or through other reputable training portals.
- Complete the Training: Many providers offer face-to-face training sessions. In Queensland, you can also take online training. Admire Workplace Safety, for example, offers online webinars that last 4 hours and to groups of no more than 15 participants.
- Assessment: After completing the training, you will be required to pass an assessment to demonstrate your understanding of the course material.
- Obtain the Card: Once you have successfully completed the training and passed the assessment, the RTO will issue you a White Card. Keep this card on you at all times when working on a construction site.
- Maintain Current Knowledge: It’s important to stay updated on safety practices and requirements as they can change. Additionally, if you do not carry out construction work for two consecutive years, your White Card might become invalid, and you may need to retake the training.
