This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to shift loads using manual handling methods, including assessing the risks associated with relocating the load, planning the relocation process and carrying out the relocation in accordance with the plan. The training will assist the participant to conduct a site specific risk assessment, identify manual handling hazards and identify, plan and carryout the correct manual handling procedures. This course is suitable for everyone in the workplace from any sector or industry, including, workers, team leaders, plant operators, supervisors and managers.. Face to face theory delivery including practical exercises and workplace inspections to view workstation setup and manual handling risks that are specific to the participant’s workplaces.

Course assessment: At the completion of the theory based component of the training course participants will be required to demonstrate their understanding by completing one theory assessment task and one practical demonstration, including a risk assessment. A short answer assessment on the principles and components of shifting materials safely using manual methods will be carried out at the end of the course.
Validity of training: Recommended to be conducted every 3 years
