This unit of competency specifies the outcomes required to undertake Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) induction training within the construction industry. It requires the ability to demonstrate personal awareness of OHS legislative requirements, and the basic principles of risk management and prevention of injury and illness in the construction industry. Licensing requirements will apply to this unit of competency depending on the regulatory requirements of each jurisdiction. This unit of competency supports the attainment of the basic OHS knowledge required prior to undertaking designated work tasks within any of the sectors within the construction industry. The unit relates directly to the general induction training program specified by the National Code of Practice for Induction Training for Construction Work (ASCC 2007). Face to face theory delivery with participants working through the course workbook with the facilitator and in small groups. This course should be completed by anyone prior to commencing work in the construction industry.

Participant pre requisite: Nil
On site cost: Cost associated with training will be provided on request
Course assessment: Theory assessment – 34 multiple choice/short answer questions
Practical assessment – 14 work activities performed throughout the elements of the unit in group discussions and workplace scenarios. These activities provide the evidence needed by the trainer to grant each participant competency in the required elements.
Validity of training: Recommended to be conducted as per company requirements
